The main goal of this site is to make DIY home automation easier source, install, and operate.
To achieve this goal HackAutomation.com will relentlessly do 2 things for the world:
- Create a new open source hardware and software project for a home automation command and control console that can be connected to any flat-screen display or TV in the house.
- Compile a cookbook style list of step-by-step home automation projects using 3rd party hardware and software compatible with this open source console
The current state of the art in DIY home automation is a using a hodge-podge of mobile apps to control disparate pieces of expensive hardware. But, its time we changed that.
It’s time someone raised the bar on home automation & information beyond the smart phone and tablet computer into the age of the “internet of things.”
Smart phones and other mobile devices are great and we love them as a hands on remote control that is almost always within reach or in your pocket especially when you are away from home.
But, imagine if you didn’t have to reach for your mobile device to receive notifications about your home automation system. What if you didn’t have to unlock your mobile device and navigate a multitude of apps and their user interfaces just to raise the temperature one degree or dim the lights in a room where you are sitting?
What if your home automation system could be accessed at a glance right from your computer screen, TV or extra displays in your home and then controlled by voice commands or a gesture?
This site aims to answer to the question: “What if?”
